It’s been a long time coming, but it appears that Apple may have finally inked a deal that’ll bring the iPhone to China Mobile. According to the Wall Street Journal, the iPhone will go on sale starting December 18 with the Chinese carrier. This news is not surprising as it has been rumored for months. The final hint was the report that a China Mobile subsidiary recently started accepting pre-orders for the Apple-branded iPhone 5s and 5c.
This is a big deal for Apple, which has been trying to expand its presence in the Asian nation. Though it sells the iPhone on China Unicom and China Telecom, the Cupertino company has not been able to get its phone on China Mobile until now. China Mobile is the world’s biggest carrier with over 700 million customers, who have not been able to officially purchase an iPhone from the carrier. With sales starting in just a few weeks, it’ll be interesting to see if demand matches that of other countries. Will there be lines, scalpers and the general craziness that accompanies an iPhone launch? Or will it be business as usual?
