One of the most common complaints about the iPhone is the lack of a bigger screen option, but according to multiple rumors, Apple’s next iPhone will feature a larger screen ranging from anywhere between 4.8-inches to 6-inches.
Today, a rumor via Japanese news site Macotakara claims that the next iPhone will have a 5-inch display with a 1920 x 1080 pixels resolution, at a pixel density of 440 ppi. The device will reportedly be launched in September next year, contradicting an earlier claim from analyst Gene Munster, who said that Apple will release the new iPhone as soon as next summer.
It’s not clear how exactly Apple would handle the transition to the bigger display, but we expect Apple to diversify the iPhone lineup like the iPad and iPod lineup. Apple has already diversified the iPhone lineup with the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c, and the company could easily add a bigger screen iPhone to this product line.
Earlier this year, a reference to pixel quadrupling was found in iOS, suggesting that Apple has a “super Retina” device in the works, but 440 ppi isn’t an integral multiple of the non-Retina iPhone’s 163ppi pixel density.
