It’s been four months since iOS 7, Apple’s next-generation mobile operating system, was released, and design criticisms aside, a number of people have complained about the frequent crashes they’ve been facing.
The reason for the crashes are of course a tight release schedule that might not have eliminated all iOS bugs, thus resulting in the overall instability. iOS 7 also adds support for 64-bit A7 chips, used in the iPhone 5s, iPad Air and iPad mini, which could also be a reason for crashes.
Apple has released 4 iOS software updates to fix stability issues since the September release of iOS 7. These updates did reduce the frequency of crashes, but haven’t been able to squash all the bugs, as per user reports. iOS 7 on an iPad is said to be even more unstable, possibly because Apple started work on iOS 7 on the iPad late.
While you can’t do much if the OS is causing crashes, you could try to diagnose the exact cause by having a look at the crash logs iOS stores in Settings > General > About > Diagnostics & Usage > Diagnostics & Usage Data.
So are you facing issues on iOS 7.0.4 on your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch? Apple is rumored to hold out iOS 7.1 until March, hopefully to refine the OS further, squash the bugs and eliminate the crashes.
