Apple seeded iOS 7.1 beta 3, and to everyone’s surprise it has made some more cosmetic changes to the user interface in some native apps, especially the Phone app.
The most striking change is in the Phone app, the flat rectangular buttons making way for circular buttons and the return of the slider button, but this time with a knob.
Sentry, UI Designer behind popular tweaks such as Auxo shared a set of images which shows the design evolution of the Phone app in iOS 7. He tweeted:
Evolution of iOS 7 (beta—.0—.1)
Notice how visual affordances, iconography & button shapes inched their way back in…
The change hasn’t gone down too well with some users who feel that Apple has managed to make something bad look worse.
Personally, I prefer the skeuomorphic design as long as you don’t go overboard with it, I like the buttons to look like buttons rather than just text or borderless buttons as I find them a lot less intuitive. So I’m glad to see that Apple is rethinking the “flat” design language, and making appropriate changes. Though I must say I’m not a big fan of the colorful sliders. They look hideous.
