Apple is facing a class action suit over the poor performance of its iOS Maps app that debuted in iOS 6. The suit was filed late last week by Nancy Romine Minkler with class action status that extends to other iOS device owners. It was filed in the San Jose office of California’s Northern District Court.
The lawsuit extends to the plaintiff and other people who purchased an iPhone, iPod touch or iPad that runs iOS 6.0, 6.1.3, 7.0, or 7.0.3. The suit points out the flaws of the Maps app and repeatedly refers to Apple’s admission that the app did not meet Apple’s high standards as proof that Apple was negligent. It lists seven causes of actions that range from breach of warranty for selling a phone that was not free from defects to unfair competition that violates a section of California Business and Professions Code.
It’s a doozy of a suit that leaves you shaking your head at how someone can sue Apple over software that is a small part of the overall OS, and one performs accurately most of the time. You can read the majority of the suit which is reproduced on Patently Apple’s website. Once you have digested the details, feel free to hop back here and share your thoughts in the comment.
