According to a rumor from the Liberty Times, Pegatron may be awarded a lucrative contract to assemble half the orders Apple is expected to place for its next smartphone model, the iPhone 6.

To prepare for this onslaught of iPhone 6 orders, Pegatron is building a new plant in Kushan, a city outside of Shanghai. The plant is expected to go online in the middle of this year and will be ready for mass production by the end of 2014. A Pegatron official told AFP that it expects to meet Apple’s demand for the next few years, but the source didn’t elaborate on what this means .

Pegatron’s current operations currently are based in Shanghai, where it assembled the iPhone 5c. Besides the iPhone, Pegatron also assembles computers, game consoles, video crds, LCD TVs and more.
